Vrije Ruimte Festival 2025 - Filmhuis Cavia
On Sunday 15th of June we had our 6th Vrije Ruimte Festival event at Filmhuis Cavia.
The program started with the screening of Johan van der Keuken’s masterpiece ‘Amsterdam Global Village’ (1996). In typical van der Keuken style, he strings together many different stories, from attending a Ghanian funeral to dancing at the Roxy club, and from a traditional fishmonger in the Jordaan to the living room of a Chechen refugee. The tour guide on this journey through the city is Khalid, a courier crossing the city on a moped, carrying film rolls and prints
After the screening we had a public discussion with: Wouter Pocorni, LI Yuchen, Yannesh Meijman, Isis van der Wel, Ivo Schmetz
The talk was centered around the question: What is the role of free spaces in creating and/or maintaining a diverse, inspiring and affordable global village?
